Cognitive Screening and Psychological Assessments in Melbourne

At HarbourLight Psychology, psychological assessments are conducted to support understanding of cognitive functioning, learning profiles, and areas where support may be beneficial. Assessments are completed using well-established, standardised tools and a collaborative, client-centred approach.

Reports are designed to assist with understanding individual strengths and challenges and may be used to inform therapy, educational planning, or workplace supports where appropriate.

Assessment recommendations are tailored to the individual and discussed prior to commencement.
Our Assessment Services:

WISC-V (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children)

This assessment may be considered where there are questions about a child’s learning profile, cognitive strengths, or areas of difficulty.

It may assist in informing educational planning and support discussions. Where appropriate, findings may contribute to consideration of learning difficulties, intellectual disability, or high intellectual ability.

School-based assessment may be available where appropriate and with school agreement.

WAIS-IV (Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale)

It may be helpful in contexts such as understanding learning or work-related challenges, or as part of a broader assessment process where indicated.

Includes: intake discussion, testing session(s), written report, and feedback session

Neurodevelopmental Assessments
ADHD
Assessment processes may be undertaken to explore features associated with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), where clinically indicated.

A multi-method approach is used, which may include clinical interviews, behavioural observations, and standardised rating scales, to understand patterns of attention, activity level, impulse control, and executive functioning across settings such as home and school.

These assessments aim to support understanding of presenting concerns and may contribute to diagnostic consideration where appropriate. Outcomes are discussed in the context of a broader clinical formulation and may inform support strategies or referral pathways.

Assessments may involve input from parents, teachers, or other relevant supports where appropriate.

Child ADHD Assessment
For children aged 6–16 years

An assessment of a child's developmental history and behaviours over multiple consultations, providing a report to enhance understanding and inform support options.
Includes intake discussion, testing session(s), comprehensive report, and feedback session
Autism
Screening and assessment processes may be undertaken to explore features associated with Autism Spectrum presentations, where clinically indicated.
Autism Assessment

Screening tools and discussions may be used to explore social communication, sensory preferences, and behavioural patterns where there are developmental concerns.

This may include parent questionnaires and clinical discussion to better understand a child’s presentation.

This is not a diagnostic autism assessment. Where appropriate, referral pathways for comprehensive multidisciplinary assessment can be discussed.
Mental Health Assessment
